The Alaska Arts & Culture Foundation is now accepting applications for its Alaska Literary Awards, which support writers across the state. These awards recognize excellence in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, playwriting, screenwriting, and mixed genres.
Any Alaska writer who is at least 18 years old and not a full-time student is eligible to apply. The primary criterion for selection is the quality of the submitted work. Award recipients have no restrictions on how they use the funds, and no formal report is required initially.
The foundation offers a select number of awards, each valued at $5,000 annually. Applicants must be legal residents of Alaska and must apply as individual artists rather than groups or teams.
Recipients are required to spend their fellowship funds by December 31, 2026, maintain Alaska residency during the fellowship year, and submit a brief report by December 31, 2025, describing how the award supported their work. The application deadline is August 31, 2025.
