The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Nevada State office and its partners mitigate hazards to protect public health and safety and the environment, and restore watersheds for resources, recreation, fish, wildlife and domestic animals, and manage air quality for the protection of public health and sensitive ecosystems, and return lands to productive uses including, but not limited to, recreation, fish and wildlife habitat, and preservation of historical/cultural resources.
The BLM’s AML Program supports these priorities by focusing efforts in the following areas:
- environmental compliance, and the identification, inventory, cleanup and remediation of legacy contaminated features and sites;
- immediate response to releases of hazardous substances, wastes and materials onto public lands;
- mitigation of priority AML sites and features;
- improving all BLM environmental programs including environmental audits; and,
- providing program training and awareness.
Funding Opportunity Goals
- Reclaim abandoned hardrock mine lands to productive uses including, but not limited to, recreation, fish and wildlife habitat, and preservation of historical/cultural resources.
- Reduce liabilities by eliminating or reducing human health and ecological risks posed by abandoned mines.
- Establish partnerships, where possible, with States, local governments, Tribes, and voluntary environmental and citizen groups, nongovernmental organizations to pool resources and expertise to address abandoned mines.

Grant Period
Projects cannot be funded for more than a five-year period.
