The Creative Futures Grant is intended to support projects that Black students in craft may want to do but are not necessarily supported to create at their educational institutions.
The grant seeks to move students toward actualizing all the phases of a creative project. Be creative.
Projects must be based in craft traditions and can be:
- Creation of new work,
- Thesis exhibition,
- A permanent public art installation,
- A body of work outside of your graduate coursework
- Travel to support research for a project
This is an opportunity to bring your vision and the histories and practices of Black makers who have not always been visible, firmly into the global story of craft.
Eligibility Criteria
This grant cannot fund promotional projects or general business operations.
- Former BADG grant recipients are ineligible
- Individuals must identify as members of the Global Black Diaspora
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a MFA program at a US-based institution
- Must have a creative practice centered in a craft discipline (fiber arts, ceramics, furniture/wood working, metalworking/jewelry, glass, paper/book arts and textiles/wearable arts)
- Applicants must be able to receive taxable income in the U.S. and report this grant as income. *US bank account is required.
- Submission of a progress report to BADG with an impact statement and imagery no later than February 15, 2026.
