Funds would be available for the following expenses: inventory purchases, equipment purchases, improvement/renovation costs, build-out/expansion costs, or related expenses. This new grant program will help address the existing gaps in accessing financial support for licensed childcare providers.
This grant is intended to support licensed childcare providers, including small businesses and nonprofits in Howard County, including business that are minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and those owned by other socially disadvantaged groups. Grant funding will be made available for center-based childcare providers and family childcare providers. Funding is also intended to support childcare needs that are not traditionally met in the market, including childcare for children with disabilities and childcare for families who work non-traditional hours.
Grant funding will be used to support both center-based childcare providers and family childcare providers. Funding will be set aside for both types of providers to ensure equitable distribution of funds.

- Center-based childcare providers: $750,000 available
- Grants of up to $250,000 can be awarded to center-based childcare providers that apply for funding.
- Center-based providers must use funding to grow the number of licensed childcare seats provided by the childcare provider.
- Center-based providers seeking to establish a new center-based childcare program in Howard County are also eligible to apply for this grant.
- Eligible grant expenses include inventory purchases, equipment purchases, improvement/renovation costs, build-out/expansion costs, and capital expenses related to the expansion of childcare seats or enrollment. Ineligible grant expenses include, but are not limited to, operating costs associated with annual operations of a childcare facility, including personnel, wages, fringe, and benefits.
