This opportunity is available to fire departments in every city, town, fire district, and eligible state authority fire departments of the Commonwealth to provide fire and life safety education to school-aged children (SAFE) and senior citizens (Senior SAFE). The objective of the program is to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities in these vulnerable populations by helping them recognize and mitigate the dangers that fire, smoking materials, poisoning, falls, and other emergencies pose.
Funding Information
The anticipated amount of funding available is $2 million.
Eligibility Criteria
- Fire departments in every city, town, fire district, and authority of the Commonwealth are eligible to apply for funds.
- The department must be in compliance with the Massachusetts Fire Incident Reporting System (MFIRS) requirements for calendar year 2023 at the time of the submission deadline. Departments that are not compliant with MFIRS as of the application deadline will not be awarded funding.
- The department must be in compliance with all reporting requirements for prior-year SAFE and/or Senior SAFE awards by the time of application submission deadline. This includes year-end reports, budget extension worksheets, and the return of any unexpended funds. Departments that are not compliant as of the application deadline will not be awarded funding.
