Eligibility Criteria
Refer to the MERC Grant Application Instructions for eligibility requirements under a Minnesota teaching program and sponsoring institution. Distinctions for the SBCT grant are as follows:
- Minnesota Clinical Training Site definition:
- Where the students/residents gain clinical training experience in an inpatient or ambulatory patient care setting in Minnesota. A clinical training site is the Minnesota Heath Care Program (MHCP) enrolled practice where training occurred. If a clinical training site is not enrolled in the Minnesota Health Care Program and does provide sliding fee services, the clinical training site is the physical location where the training occurred.
- Minnesota Clinical Training Site Details:
- Training that occurs in a nursing facility (or hospital swing bed unit) is not eligible.
- Training site must be actively enrolled in the Minnesota Health Care Program (MHCP) or is funded in part by sliding fee scale services.
- Training sites that are not enrolled in the MHCP but provide sliding fee services may only apply for the Site Based Clinical Training Grant.
- Training site faces increased financial pressure as a result of competition with nonteaching patient care entities; and d. Training site emphasizes primary care or specialties that are in undersupply in rural or underserved areas of Minnesota based on Commissioner priorities.
- A Minnesota clinical training site hosting a clinical medical education program for advanced practice nursing is eligible, if the program meets the eligibility requirements in items 2.b. through 2.d. and is sponsored by the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center, the Mayo Foundation, or an institution that is part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system or members of the Minnesota Private College Council.
- There is no minimum clinical training FTE requirement for the SBCT grant.
- Clinic training sites only applying for the SBCT grant will not submit an expenditure report. There is no minimum clinical training expenditures requirement.
