2026 East Maui Water Authority Grants Program (Hawaii)

For Fiscal Year 2025-2026, the East Maui Water Authority will award grant funding to programs that empower and build capacity within East Maui / Maui Hikina and support the thriving of the watershed and the communities of Nāhiku, Keʻanae, Honomanū, and Huelo.

Funding Information

The East Maui Water Authority anticipates awards to be between $2,500 to $25,000.

Grant Period

The grant period will be from January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026.

Eligible Projects

Grants will be awarded to programs or projects that show a direct benefit to the Maui Hikina communities of Nāhiku, Keʻanae, Honomanū, and Huelo and the watershed through services or activities in the following and related areas:

  • Watershed restoration and stewardship (including practices of caring for ʻauwai, loʻi kalo, invasive species control and other forms of mālama ʻāina);
  • Community education and cultural knowledge-sharing (including all forms of sharing, documenting and amplifying ʻike kupuna);
  • Data collection, monitoring and research initiatives (including stream monitoring, rainfall research and monitoring, and water quality testing).

Eligibility Criteria

  • EMWA will only award to eligible applicants operating within the County of Maui. Eligible applicants include for-profit organizations incorporated under the laws of the State of Hawaii, non-profit organizations determined to be exempt from federal income tax by the Internal Revenue Service, and sole proprietors. Eligible applicants must be in good standing with the State and Federal government and are required to provide necessary documents.
  • County funded grants must serve a public purpose. Applicant shall clearly identify objective(s) for the program or project that will benefit the community or public.
