The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice (DMPSJ) is offering Fiscal Year 2026 grant funds through the Safe Commercial Corridors Grant Program. This program aims to enhance public safety and health for residents, workers, and visitors within designated commercial districts and their surrounding areas.
The grant supports a variety of activities, including building relationships with community members and businesses, connecting people with District government resources, providing safe accompaniment to transit or vehicles, and helping businesses improve their security systems. It also funds efforts to assist individuals with substance use disorders through harm-reduction strategies, implement de-escalation techniques, deter crime, and foster collaboration with public safety and health agencies.
The program emphasizes culturally competent services and innovative strategies to improve safety. Grant recipients are expected to share outcomes and lessons learned to contribute to the broader public safety efforts in the District.
The funding period runs from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026. Eligible applicants include public or private community-based nonprofits located in the District of Columbia. For-profit organizations may apply but cannot include profit in their grant budgets, though they can participate as subcontractors.
Applicants must serve District residents, workers, business owners, property owners, and visitors within commercial corridors, and be involved in maintaining public and commercial spaces. If subcontracting, applicants must submit a clear agreement detailing the subcontractor’s role and alignment with the grant’s goals at the time of application.
The application deadline is July 14, 2025.
