Details:
A cohort-style professional development program focused on arts leadership training for mid- through advanced-career arts administrators with a goal of increasing the effectiveness of arts organizations and their boards. The program will offer in-person and virtual sessions with experts in the field that focus on arts administration areas, including leadership and management, marketing, strategic planning, fundraising, human resources, and arts advocacy in South Carolina.
Program Goals
- Build a cohort of arts leaders in South Carolina who are committed to the advancement of the arts.
- Engage arts leaders in sessions and activities designed to strengthen competencies and build capacity in arts administration.
- Provide opportunities to establish networks that support the arts throughout the state.
Funding Information
$3,500 (includes $500 participation stipend after completion of program).
Grant Period
October 15, 2024 – May 31, 2025.
Uses of funds
Funds can only be used for professional development. Examples include:
- Conference fees and expenses.
- Staff and board training.
- Consultant services for strategic planning and strategic plan implementation.
- Financial management.
- Program evaluation consultation.
- Communications, marketing, and rebranding strategy development.
- Facilitation of a board retreat.
- In-person or virtual training.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a nonprofit arts organization
- currently registered with the S.C. Secretary of State’s Office
- Note: Applicants who are exempt from this registration must upload their registration exemption approval.
- reflecting S.C. as the primary address on all current official organizational documents
- with federal tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service
- OR
- applying through a tax-exempt fiscal agent/receiver organization
- Note: Applicants who are applying through a fiscal agent/receiver must submit a letter outlining the working relationship and responsibilities of both parties.
- The applicant organization must have an executive leader (executive director, board president, artistic director, or CEO) with six (6) or more years of experience in executive leadership.
- In accordance with federal government policy, all organizations – including (but not limited to) private schools, public school districts, government entities, and nonprofit organizations – must provide a valid UEI number to receive an SCAC grant award.

- Special consideration will be given to:
- Arts organizations that have experienced ongoing hardship and have been unable to continue their professional development, and to
- Organizations in underserved communities. Underserved communities include those communities in which people lack arts programs, services, or resources due to geography, economic conditions, cultural background, socio-political circumstances, disability, age or other demonstrable factors. The term “community” can refer to a group of people with a common heritage or characteristics, whether they are in the same location or not.
