Details:
Grant funds can be used to pay for time spent on the creative process, buy materials or equipment, rent space, or hire services needed to complete the work. This is a competitive program reviewed by an independent panel of practicing artists and arts professionals. Both new and experienced artists are encouraged to apply.

Grant awards are a flat amount of $5,000 with a new option of $10,000 awards for performing arts groups.

Eligible Expenses
Grant funds must be used only for creating new work. They encourage you to pay for your time and pay other artists fairly when applicable.
- Your time (and other artists’ time if applicable) for research, planning, and creation
- Materials or equipment for the creation of the work
- Renting space outside your home to create the work
- Travel to create the work
- Professional services related to creating or finishing the work (for example, editing a manuscript, mixing and mastering an album, etc.)
- Accessibility costs (for example, captioning, ASL interpreters, large print, audio description, assistive listening devices, etc.)
Eligibility Criteria
Individual artists and artist groups may apply. Individual applicants must:
- Be Vermont residents for at least one year before the application deadline and be residents when the award is granted. Residency means Vermont is your primary home, and the address you use for legal documents like state income taxes, car registration, driver’s license or stateissued ID, and voter registration
- Be 18 years of age or older at the time of application
- Have submitted all required reports on any previous Council grants
- Be a practicing artist. This means you intentionally create or practice art and spend significant time on your art as your finances allow, working in artistic disciplines such as visual arts, crafts, performing arts (including music), literary arts, media and design arts, and multidisciplinary arts.
Ineligibility
- Artists whose projects include activities for college credit
- Artists or artist groups who received a Creation Grant in the previous year (FY2026)
- Nonprofit organizations.
