These are groups and organizations that are continuously building community power and championing campaigns to dismantle systems of oppression through systems change work. (Ex: Black Swan Academy, Empower DC, ONE DC, Fair Budget Coalition, Harriet’s Wildest Dreams).
Flowering Fund’s Purpose
- Support long-term community-led campaigns that are dismantling systems of oppression and transforming DC into a place where communities of color flourish.
- Provides resources for groups working to access funding from other value-align philanthropic organizations in DC.

Eligibility Criteria
- Led by people of color and focused on DC residents
- Employing approaches and strategies (like power building) to tackle problems at the root by engaging affected communities to find solutions, organize against oppression, and create systemic change
- Transferring power and resources to directly affected communities
- Amplifying the leadership and voices of those directly affected by the issues and needs being addressed
- Launching and/or implementing community-led campaigns addressing social and racial justice issues harming DC residents OR starting new work to address a new systemic issue
- Aligning with DC Fund values and funding priorities ( Mobilizing, Advocacy/Organizing, Healing Justice & Liberation).
