Details:

For more than 30 years, the Neighborhood Fund, a program of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta (the Foundation), has historically provided neighborhoods of metro Atlanta with critical resources needed to accomplish community-based projects, build the leadership skills of residents; and enhance the organizational capacity of community focused nonprofits.

Neighborhood Fund is intended to accomplish one or more of four broad outcomes:

  • Develop active, engaged and knowledgeable residents
  • Creation and participation in a thriving economy
  • Show artistic and cultural vibrancy
  • Support strong, healthy, and self-sufficient families

Participatory grantmaking is a philanthropic approach that gives communities the power to decide who and what receives funding. It’s based on the idea that people who are closest to the communities’ most pressing needs are often best able to address them. This approach can help to dismantle power imbalances between funders and the communities they serve, and can have many long-term benefits, including:

  • Collaboration
  • Improved decision-making
  • Knowledge sharing
  • Relationship building
  • Transparency
  • Valuable information for nonprofits

Organizations and community groups interested in applying must be located in one of the Foundation’s priority neighborhoods: College Park (Fulton/Clayton counties), Fair Oaks (Cobb county) and Thomasville Heights (City of Atlanta).

Funding Information

Awards will range from $5,000 to $25,000 depending on project scope, organizational need and potential for impact and community engagement.
