The Club’s programs, run by member-volunteers, are designed to foster an appreciation of nature, especially among young people.
CGC has been providing grants to non-profit institutions located in New York City for more than a quarter century, and it is a program that has introduced thousands of city residents of all backgrounds and ages to the wonders of gardening and farming.
City Gardens Club grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 are offered on a yearly basis for worthwhile projects that conform to the mission of the Grants Committee, which is to bring the beauty of the natural world into the lives of children and adults in all five boroughs of New York City and to sponsor educational programs that help citizens:
- develop appreciation and knowledge of nature
- learn gardening skills
- support the preservation and improvement of the city’s environment
Funds are distributed to a variety of nonprofit groups chosen by the committee from the year’s pool of grant applications. The committee’s goals include:
- preserving and/or upgrading community gardens and public spaces, both old and new
- supporting viable startup projects that offer interactive learning opportunities
- educating community members in developing gardening skills and supplying them with plants and garden-related materials.

Seasonal internship programs will be considered.
