The grant process is a transparent, equitable system where members can vote to select recipient nonprofit organizations. This inclusive method ensures that funding decisions reflect the collective values and maximize local impact.
We fund transformational nonprofit organizations across five areas:
- Arts & Culture – enriching artistic access, education and cultural programs
- Education – bridging educational disparities affecting children and adults
- Family – supporting children, families and seniors to strengthen wellbeing
- Health & Wellness – enhancing mental and physical health services
- Environment, Preservation & Recreation – championing natural environments, climate resilience, and safe, vibrant community spaces.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, organizations must:
- Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (local affiliates under national 501(c)(3) may apply)
- Located in and serving residents within the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, Arlington and/or Fairfax County, or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax or Falls Church
- Provide three years of independently audited or reviewed financial statements
- Have annual revenues (i.e., operating budget) of $300,000 to $5 million for each of the three-year periods prior to applying
