The Vermont Department of Labor (VDOL) champions opportunities for up-skilling and re-skilling among Vermont’s workforce through the dynamic Work-Based Learning and Training Program.

This initiative is crafted to engage and benefit all working-age Vermonters seeking valuable experiences in work-based learning and training.

The Vermont Department of Labor’s has developed a statewide Work-Based Learning and Training Program that serves transitioning secondary and postsecondary students and Vermonters seeking work-based experience as part of a career experience or change and is designed to support Vermonters who are graduating from postsecondary education or a secondary CTE program or who are pursuing a career change with a paid on-the-job work experience lasting 12 weeks or fewer; and support employers by providing them with assistance in developing and implementing meaningful work-based learning and training opportunities.

Funding of this grant may be used to build or administer a new or existing Work Based Learning and Training program or to provide interns with stipends during the Work Based Learning and Training. From a programmatic perspective, the divisions goal is to serve 400 individuals over the course of the fiscal year.

Funding Information

  • Grant funds, up to $1,000,000.00, will be competitively awarded through this announcement to build or administer the Work-Based Learning and Training programs, with a focus on providing pay and/or stipends for participants.
  • Grant awards will be distributed in two funding tiers, ranging from $5,000 to $40,000 for applicants who have never had a training program and from $5,000 to $75,000 for those who have successfully administered a training program and are seeking to expand. However, no applicant is eligible to request more than $75,000.

April 15, 2024 – December 31, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Your business operates in Vermont.
  • Your organization is in good standing with the State of Vermont.
  • Your business has an account with Vermont Job Link.

Proposal Criteria

  • VDOL wants proposals that help create and grow Work-Based Learning and Training programs in Vermont.
  • These programs should focus on secondary and postsecondary levels, specifically in career or technical education.
  • The grants won’t go to projects replacing existing positions with work-based learners.
