CalRecycle administers a program to provide infrastructure costs related to sorting of materials for creating clean streams of beverage container materials that are substantially free of contamination from existing curbside recycling programs or drop-off collection programs.
Funding Information
- $47,500,000 is available for this grant cycle, fiscal year 2022–23, subject to funding availability.
- $10,000,000 is the maximum available for individual grant awards.
- $1,000,000 is the minimum amount available for individual grant awards.

Eligible projects include:
- Infrastructure costs related to sorting of empty beverage container material from existing curbside recycling programs, collection/drop-off programs or community service programs.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants:
- Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in collaboration with registered curbside programs
- Registered Curbside (CS) Programs
- Certified Collection/Drop-Off (CP) Programs
- Certified Community Service (SP) Programs
- Certified Processors
- An organizational type that provides one of the services listed above include:
- Non-profit Organizations – Non-profit organizations (except private K-12 schools) registered with the federal government under 501(c)3, (c)6, or (c)10 of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Local Governments – California cities, counties, and other local government entities.
- Private entities and for-profit businesses.
- Public colleges and universities.
- Qualifying Tribal Entities – A “Qualifying Tribal Entity” is defined as a tribe, band, nation or other organized group of community, residing within the borders of California, which:
- Is recognized for special programs and services provided by the United States because of the status of its members as Native Americans; or
- Can establish that it is a government entity, and which meets the criteria of the grant program.
