The Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Department, on behalf of the City’s Arts & Culture Commission, is now accepting proposals for the Beyond the Box – Utility Box Art Program. This initiative aims to promote community pride and beautify neighborhoods by transforming public utility boxes with artwork. The art will be installed in public spaces and must be suitable for all ages to view.
The goal of the program is to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal, increase pedestrian traffic, and extend public art to new, unexpected places. This initiative is sponsored by the Glendale Arts and Culture Commission (ACC), which supports projects that improve the visual environment and engage the public in creative ways. Selected artists will design vinyl wraps for utility boxes in various locations around Glendale, bringing beauty to otherwise ordinary spaces.
The ACC will provide $750 for each utility box design rendering. Artists are invited to submit proposals for individual or group projects. The program is open to all local and regional artists, with preference given to Glendale residents when all other factors are equal. Artists may submit up to three designs per individual or group. If submitting as a group, a signed Release of Liability and Indemnity Agreement from each participant is required. Please note that City of Glendale employees are not eligible to apply.
