With this solicitation, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) seeks to support law enforcement, correctional officers, probation and parole, and sheriff’s departments in effectively partnering with mental health, substance use, community service professionals and agencies to promote public safety and make sure that appropriate responses are provided to individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities, and/or traumatic brain injuries.

This program seeks to improve responses to and outcomes for people in crisis who come into contact with law enforcement.
Objectives
With this solicitation, the CRIT Program supports law enforcement agencies throughout the country to pursue the following objectives:
- Plan, develop, or enhance a patrol or institutional confinement training program to improve crisis response and intervention for people in crisis, including collaborative training with community service providers.
- Evaluate a training program based on BJA’s CRIT Curriculum.
Funding Information
- Category 1: Training Program for Law Enforcement Officers, including campus-based police; Law Enforcement Agencies, including Probation and Parole (field- based); and Sheriff Departments (patrol-based): $250,000
- Category 2: Training Program for Correctional Officers, Probation and Parole(facility-based), and Sheriff’s Department (facility-based): $250,000
