The mission of the Gheens Foundation is to improve the quality of life for the residents of metropolitan Louisville and Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes in Louisiana and to meet present and emerging needs of those communities through grant-making and philanthropic leadership.
Eligibility Criteria
501(C)(3) Requirement:
- Organizations must be in active standing with the IRS and a verified tax number is required to access the application process. Public school districts and governmental entities should contact the Foundation office to obtain access to the portal.
- To be eligible to apply for an initial grant, the applicant’s gross unrestricted revenues per its Form 990 must have exceeded $50,000 (a) for its most recent fiscal year, or (b) an average of $50,000 for its past 3 consecutive fiscal years.
Guidelines
- It is the policy of the Gheens Foundation to contribute approximately five percent (5%) of the value of its total assets each year to charitable organizations located in the Metropolitan Louisville area and in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes in Louisiana.
- The Foundation has established a strong relationship with the Bayou Community Foundation which now serves as the channel through which the Gheens Foundation fulfills its philanthropic support in Louisiana.
- Education and human/social services requests will receive emphasis.
