The John T. Sloper Community Fund is inviting applications to support programs in Southern Dutchess and Putnam counties, areas previously served by the Sloper-Willen Community Ambulance Service. The fund aims to enhance emergency medical services in these communities by providing training and medical equipment to save lives.
The fund honors the legacy of John T. Sloper and the Sloper-Willen Community Ambulance Service and encourages organizations to offer vital emergency medical services. Grant proposals are welcome for purchasing Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), including necessary training and materials, or for supporting organizations to become First Responders in underserved areas. Grants can also cover equipment that improves the delivery of emergency medical services.
Each year, the fund has approximately $20,000 available, with up to $3,500 per grant for AEDs, training, and support materials. A fall grant cycle is held annually, and organizations with a history of not receiving funding in the previous year will be given preference.
Eligible applicants include tax-exempt organizations that serve communities once supported by the Sloper-Willen Community Ambulance Service, as well as police departments, fire companies, and volunteer ambulance services in Dutchess and Putnam counties. However, funding will not be provided to programs fully covered by state funds or for basic, advanced, or recertification EMT training.
Applications are due by October 15, 2025.
