To advance its mission, the Charlotte Martin Foundation focuses grantmaking in two areas:
- Youth: Creating opportunities for youth, especially youth of color, to explore their passions, enrich their lives and develop their skills in order to reach their potential in the world
- Wildlife and Habitat: Supporting the resilience of vital ecosystems by promoting biodiversity and the protection of wildlife, especially in an era of a changing climate.
The Foundation will continue to focus on two current priorities:
- Rural BIPOC youth
- Organizations focused on climate change, biodiversity, and wildlife and habitat preservation.
Core Principles
- Relevance: They continually seek information regarding significant opportunities in region and in focus areas to ensure that they are responding to current needs and opportunities.
- Community Engagement: They seek to foster community engagement in protecting wildlife and habitat and in engaging youth skills to build directly on community needs and strengths.
- Focus on Place: Grounded in the Northwest, they fund in urban, rural and tribal communities in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington where people work to improve the places that they live.
- Expand Opportunity: They give special consideration in grant making to benefit and expand opportunities for underserved populations in region.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for funding, organizations must be headquartered in this region (Western States as Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska) and the proposed programs must take place within this region.
