The City of Garden Grove’s (City) Home Repair Program (Program) is designed to increase, improve, and preserve affordable housing through the use of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
The Program provides grants for eligible home repairs to low- and moderate-income homeowners at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) as defined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Eligible activities include the repair, replacement, and/or installation of major systems including plumbing, heating, electrical, windows, roof, paint, and handicap accessibility.
Eligible Home Repairs
Repairs can include the following:
- Exterior painting
- Window replacement
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Heating (HVAC)
- Handicap accessibility (Wheelchair ramp, grab bars, walk-in shower, etc.)
Eligibility Criteria
- Annual household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), as determined by the State.
- All members of the household over the age of 18 must submit income verification documentation as part of the application process.
- Applicant’s home must be in the city of Garden Grove and owner-occupied.
- Prior grant recipients must wait 5 years to re-apply.
- Homeowner must contribute a minimum of $500 of their own funds towards the project.
- If the home repairs cost more than the maximum grant amount of $5,000, the homeowner will be responsible for paying the difference.
