Details:

The Department of Housing encourages reinvestment in and revitalization of the City’s neighborhoods and homes to improve the quality of life in the City. The Department builds relationships with public- and private-sector partners to leverage resources for property owners to invest in the City’s housing stock. In building these relationships, the Department brings resources and information to residents to invest in their homes and make their home meet the demands of their families.

The Department is focused on long-term community stability through three key areas: Build, Maintain, Thrive.

  • Build
    • The Department works with developers to build new affordable and market-rate housing.
  • Maintain
    • The Department proposes and establishes City programs to help with property maintenance and repairs and partners with nonprofit, for-profit, and government agencies to bring programs and capital to City residents.
  • Thrive
    • The Department proposes policy that seeks to improve the quality of life for all residents in the City.

Funding Information

Exterior Home Repair Maintenance Grant — Home repair financial assistance program for up to $2,500 per applicant toward repair cost of exterior maintenance/ improvement projects. Every homeowner will be required to pay a portion of costs for approved project. The amount of the contribution depends on the total cost of the project.

Project Eligibility

Eligible exterior projects/improvements:

  • Windows
  • Porch/Patio/Deck
  • Paint/ power washing/ vinyl siding
  • Tuck Pointing
  • Roof
  • Exterior Lighting
  • Garage Repairs
  • Doors
  • Gutters
  • Driveway/Service walk/Sidewalks.

Guidelines

  • Property must be owner primary residence for at least one year at time of application.
  • Property taxes must be current or in an approved Cuyahoga County repayment plan.
  • The property cannot be listed for sale at the time of application NOR completion of project.
  • Grant funds cannot be used to address open/current Point-of-Sale violations.
  • Applicant must not have received any grant funds from City grant program within the last 2 years.
  • Applicant must have current homeowner’s insurance policy on property.
  • Grant funds cannot be used for repair projects where work has already started.
  • Applicant must obtain Three (3) comparable project estimates for repair projects over $500.
  • A homeowner contribution of 10% of the total project cost OR the overage above grant amount is required, whichever is greater.
