Size of the Grant: $100,000 to $500,000

Grant Duration: 1 Year

Details:

Administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program provides funding for activities that provide decent housing, create suitable living environments, and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate-income people. These goals are further described below.

  • Provide Decent Housing: Assist homeless and potentially (at-risk) homeless people, retain affordable housing stock, and increase the availability of permanent housing;
  • Create Suitable Living Environment: Improve the safety and livability of neighborhoods, increase access to community facilities and services, and revitalize neighborhoods; and
  • Expand Economic Opportunities: Create and retain jobs, assist small businesses, and expand workforce development opportunities.

As a federally designated entitlement community, the City of Palm Desert receives CDBG funds annually to assist low and moderate-income people within the community.

The City of Palm Desert anticipates that it will receive approximately $365,000 in CDBG funds from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Fiscal Year 2025-2026.

City of Palm Desert projects that are eligible to receive funding are those which benefit the very low to low and moderate-income population within the community such as seniors, the developmentally disabled, victims of domestic violence, the homeless, etc. Programs and projects such as park development, public facilities improvements or repairs, energy efficiency projects, housing, and community service programs are also eligible. Prescribed fund allocations are as follows: (1) 65% of CDBG funds are awarded to capital improvement and housing-type projects; (2) 15% are awarded to community service programs; and (3) 20% to administrative programs.

Grant Period

July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
