Details:

The City aims to provide funding to those who provide essential services to improve the health, safety, and well-being of all Rhode Islanders by advancing innovative solutions that foster independence, improve health, to combat the opioid epidemic challenge the community faces.

Project Objectives 

Grant funds will be used by community providers to respond to the negative impacts of the opioid epidemic within the City of Pawtucket. Funds will be used for the following opioid abatement efforts:

  • Address the misuse and abuse of opioid products
  • Treat or mitigate opioid use or related disorders
  • Mitigate other alleged opioid effects to include those injured as a result of the opioid epidemic
  • Develop and invest in education, training, equipment, community partners, and current systems to curb misuse and addiction.

Core Abatement Strategies

Projects that consider or incorporate the State of Rhode Island’s Core abatement strategies outlined by the governor will be prioritized to effectively utilize funds. Core abatement strategies include:

  • Expand treatment to in-need populations
  • Build and expand prevention programs
  • Expand recovery services and ‘warm hand-off’ programs
  • Expand rescue services and training
  • Expand distribution of overdose-reversal drugs
  • Use data collection and research to evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies.

Additional project examples have been determined such as:

  • Purchasing Naloxone kits for distribution to community centers, emergency medical services, and hospitals
  • Purchasing Naloxone for distribution via vending machines
  • Development or improvement of education systems for at risk populations.

Funding Information

This grant is the first phase of competitive grant funding as part of $1,723,463 to be released over the next 14 years, through 2038. Funding will be provided to community-based providers (registered non-profits, community groups (501c3 or with fiduciary) and government entities that target key opioid abatement efforts. These efforts include treatment, prevention, recovery, rescue, and data collection to evaluate proactive and recovery strategies. Eligible applicants must demonstrate that they can provide the service specifications and standards in this application. Award recipients must meet all applicable regulations and policies, conditions, and requirements for Opioid Settlement Funds and follow programmatic reporting into the future. The minimum project budget request is $5,000, and the maximum allocation is $150,000 per project.

Eligibility Criteria 

Eligible applicants such as non-profits (registered 501c3), community groups (with registered 501c3 Fiduciary) or local governments will use funds to respond to the negative impacts of the opioid epidemic within the City of Pawtucket by any one or more of the following approved purposes: care, treatment, and other programs and expenditures designed to accomplish the program objectives listed above.
