Details:

CDBG is the Community Development Block Grant from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program’s purpose is the development of viable urban communities through the provision of the following, principally for low-and-moderate income persons.  The objectives of the Community Development Block Grant program is to benefit low/moderate income persons, aid in the prevention or elimination of slums/blight, to address urgent community needs, and affordable and safe housing.

Public service programs include, but are not limited to: health care, job training, recreation programs, education programs, anti-violence programs, services for senior citizens, youth services, services for homeless persons, substance abuse counseling and treatment, domestic violence services, mental health services, immigrant services, disability services, and fair housing/tenant landlord counseling.

Grant Period

July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Eligible Projects 

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to public services, emergency home repair, public facility improvements, etc. Applicants must demonstrate that the selection of clients is an objective process and sub-recipients may not limit participation on the basis of age, race, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, familial status, disability, or sexual orientation.

Eligibility Criteria 

Eligible applicants include:

  • Registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporations,
  • Governmental entities, including public agencies, commissions or authorities that are independent of the City of Radford,
  • Churches that meet the requirements of IRC section 501(c)(3), regardless of their application and recognition from the IRS
  • Institutes of higher education. Program beneficiaries must be low or moderate income.
