The City of Salem is proud to offer the Residential Toolbox Grant, designed to support the enhancement and restoration of historically designated residential properties. This grant helps homeowners preserve the unique historic character of their homes while maintaining safety and compliance.
Funding for the grant comes from the Certified Local Government Program through the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office, contributions from private residents, and the City of Salem General Fund. Applicants can receive awards up to $1,000 to assist with eligible projects.
To qualify, proposed work must focus on enhancing, restoring, preserving, renovating, or rebuilding the historic aspects of the exterior facade of a contributing building. Projects must meet design standards outlined in SRC Chapter 230 and comply with state Lead Safe Practices regulations. Additionally, any seismic retrofit work must have a valid building permit, and applicants must not have any historic code violations within the past year.
The application deadline is August 1, 2025, making this an excellent opportunity for Salem homeowners to secure funds that preserve the city’s rich architectural heritage.
