Details:
The Newsroom Sustainability Grant will provide project-specific funding for sustainability initiatives, including staff roles, technology investments, and revenue-generating and cost-saving initiatives.
CMP will prioritize proposals that could be expected to generate sufficient revenue and/or cost savings to increase overall operational sustainability, and that demonstrate how the initial one-year projects funded by this grant are integrated into the organization’s broader plans for long-term sustainability beyond grant funding.
Funding Information
CMP anticipates awarding one-year grants ranging from $30,000-$50,000 from the 2025 Newsroom Sustainability Grant Opportunity for sustainability, revenue-generating, and/or cost-saving investments serving Colorado newsrooms. Funding will support projects running from August 2025 – July 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- In operation and publishing since at least 01/01/2023
- A commitment to editorial excellence, editorial independence, and transparency
- Located in Colorado and/or projects must primarily serve Colorado communities
- Have completed the 2025 Colorado Local News Survey administered by the Colorado Local News Collaborative (COLab)
- Applicants can be:
- 501(c)(3) nonprofit newsrooms and organizations
- University or college student newsrooms producing original reporting that is community-facing
- For-profit organizations with an established 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor.
