The Colfax Security Enhancement Pilot offers grant funding to business owners along West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado, to create or upgrade safety features on their properties. The program aims to foster safer environments for businesses and their customers while reducing calls for service.
Grants are awarded as reimbursements, with a maximum amount of $5,000 per project, not to exceed the total project cost. Eligible businesses must be located within the designated Lakewood area in a commercial zone, hold all necessary licenses, and be in good standing. Both individual and multitenant centers qualify, and nonprofit organizations are also eligible.
Applicants must participate in the City of Lakewood’s Business Watch program and provide either a Safety and Security Assessment or a police report. Due to demand, a phone consultation confirmation with the Lakewood Police Department can be accepted as well.
Eligible projects include improvements such as lighting, alarms, cameras, windows, entrance doors, mirrors, fences, and locks—anything that helps law enforcement respond more effectively to safety concerns. Some upgrades, like fencing, may require compliance with city codes, so applicants are encouraged to contact the program administrator for clarification. The application deadline is July 31, 2025.
