This program will offer grants to nonprofit organizations to build community gardens on underutilized land for public access and use, prioritizing areas where people have limited access to affordable, nutritious food. Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (fiscally-sponsored groups will not be eligible for this funding opportunity)
- Proposals must be for the development of new community gardens or expansions to existing community gardens on underutilized land, defined as land where a significant proportion, or the entire site, is not being used to its full potential.
- All gardens funded must be open to the public and made available for regular community use.
- Projects must be ready to begin construction by June 2026.
- Improvements must be permanent in nature and be maintained for at least 15 years.
- Proof of land ownership or landowner permission to make the proposed improvements must be submitted at the time of application. Prior to the execution of a grant agreement, selected applicants who do not own the land must submit a lease or Memorandum of Agreements (MOA) valid for at least 15 years.
- Applicants must provide a list of pending and committed funds to be able to complete the project. Grant agreements cannot be executed until all other sources of funds to complete the project have been secured. Selected applicants may be required to provide backup documentation for other sources of funds.
