Details:

Priorities 

When awarding a discretionary grant, the Community Foundation gives priority to projects that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Provides for more efficient use of community resources.
  • Promotes coordination, cooperation and sharing among organizations, in order to reduce the duplication of services in community.
  • Meets a need not fully met by existing programs.
  • Tests or demonstrates new approaches and techniques for solving impactful community issues.
  • Promotes volunteer participation and citizen involvement in community affairs
  • Strengthens not-for-profit agencies and institutions by increasing public financial support and/or improving internal management.
  • Projects must be sustained by other funding after the grant is exhausted.

Funding Information

Grant requests may be in any amount up to $20,000.

Project Period

Grants awarded through the Community Grants process must be used within 18 months of the award date, unless an extension has been approved.

Requirements

  • Must be a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, a government entity, or have a fiscal agent
  • Impacts Shelby County, Ohio residents
  • The request must be specific and be able to answer the questions – What is the program/project or event? How will the funds be used? Who will the grant directly benefit? How will the program/project/event be accomplished? What amount of funding are you requesting? What is the timeline for the program/project or event?

Limitations 

Certain programs, projects, and organizations are generally not eligible for funding, including but not limited to:

  • General undesignated requests for operations
  • Ongoing/repeated programs
  • Fundraising drives
  • Individuals
  • Recurring event sponsorships
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes meant to primarily serve its members (programs open to the community may be considered)
  • Endowments
  • Specific scientific, medical or academic research
  • Political campaigns or activities
  • Organizations that do not operate programs in Shelby County, Ohio, or do not the benefit Shelby County, Ohio residents
  • Purchases or activities that occur prior to grant decisions
