The Arts & Science Council (ASC) is now accepting applications for its Culture Blocks program for Creative Individuals. This grant opportunity supports free arts, science, and history programming across Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The deadline to apply is August 11, 2025, and funded programs must be delivered between January 1 and June 30, 2026.
ASC is the official arts agency for Charlotte-Mecklenburg and serves as a cultural catalyst for economic growth and community connection. Culture Blocks is a key initiative, funded by Mecklenburg County and offered in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Libraries and Parks and Recreation.
The program brings cultural experiences directly into communities, especially those historically underserved. Activities are held in public spaces like libraries, recreation centers, and parks, and are shaped by resident input. The goal is to make arts and culture easily accessible where people live.
Creative individuals may apply for funding of up to $20,000. Programs may include visual arts, theater, music, dance, film, culinary arts, multicultural events, and more. Projects must prioritize inclusive, community-centered experiences rather than professional training or internal development.
The selection process values transparency and responsiveness to community needs. Applications are judged on feasibility, alignment with ASC’s mission, engagement with local communities, and a clear marketing plan to reach intended audiences.
ASC also ensures equitable access by distributing programs across all public libraries and recreation centers. Programming should serve a range of age groups and reflect the diversity and population size of each neighborhood block. This approach aims to build a vibrant and inclusive cultural environment throughout Charlotte and surrounding towns.
