The purpose of the Disability and Rehabilitation Research Projects (DRRP) is to plan and conduct research, demonstration projects, training, and related activities, including international activities, to develop methods, procedures, and rehabilitation technology that maximize the full inclusion and integration into society, employment, independent living, family support, and economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals with disabilities, especially individuals with disabilities who have the greatest support needs, and to improve the effectiveness of services authorized under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (Rehabilitation Act). Under this particular DRRP priority, the grantee must conduct research toward maternal health services or interventions to improve pregnancy outcomes among women with long-term disabilities. NIDILRR plans to make one award under this opportunity in FY 2024.
Priority
- The Administrator of the Administration for Community Living establishes a priority for a Disability Rehabilitation Research Project (DRRP) on Disability and Pregnancy. The DRRP must contribute to maximizing positive pregnancy experiences, prenatal care, or birth outcomes among people with a long-term disabilities, including those with the greatest support needs. To contribute to these outcomes, the DRRP must –
- Conduct research in one or more of the following areas to establish new knowledge about pregnancy among people with disabilities as a group, people with specific disability, or people with disabilities within specific demographic subpopulations.
- Demonstrating, in its original application, that people with disabilities from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds will be included in study samples in sufficient numbers to generate knowledge and products that are relevant to the racial and ethnic diversity of the population of people with disabilities being studied.
- Focus its research on a specific stage(s) of research. If the DRRP is to conduct research that can be categorized under more than one stage, including research that progresses from one stage to another, those stages must be clearly specified and justified.
- Conduct knowledge translation activities (i.e., utilization, dissemination) to facilitate stakeholder (e.g., people with disabilities and their families, clinicians, policymakers, practitioners) use of the knowledge, interventions, programs, technologies, or products that result from the research activities conducted under paragraph (1)(a) of this priority.
- Involve people with disabilities and other key stakeholder groups in the design and conduct of research activities carried out under paragraph (1)(a) of this priority, to maximize the relevance and usability of the knowledge and products to be developed.
