With this solicitation, BJA seeks to provide state, local, and tribal prosecutors with funding to reduce crime and increase public safety and trust in the criminal justice system. The program encourages prosecutors and agencies to use data in the development of their strategies and projects and to develop fair, effective, cost-effective, and innovative responses to crime within their jurisdictions.
Goals
The program’s goal is for prosecutorial agencies to incorporate innovative or evidence-based prosecution strategies as a fundamental component of their efforts to reduce crime and ensure public safety by accomplishing the objectives below.
Objectives
- Test, establish, and/or expand programming that enhances prosecutors’ ability to effectively and sustainably prevent and respond to crime, especially violent crime, which could include the hiring of new prosecutors.
- Foster innovative, effective, formalized, and consistent collaborations with external agencies, and the communities they serve, to increase public safety and trust in the criminal justice system.
- Use technology, intelligence, and data in innovative ways that enable prosecutors’ offices to focus resources on the people and places associated with high concentrations of crime and to allow state and local prosecutors’ offices to improve their operations to more efficiently and effectively work with communities in reducing crime.
- Enable prosecutors’ offices to reduce caseloads to manageable levels by modernizing offices, hiring analytical or support staff, and updating information technology.

- Anticipated Total Amount To Be Awarded Under This Solicitation: $5,000,000.
- Anticipated Maximum Dollar Amount per Award: up to $350,000.
- Period of Performance Duration (Months): 24.
Eligibility Criteria
- State and local prosecutorial agencies
- Federally recognized Native American tribal governments that perform prosecution functions.
- Tribal consortia consisting of two or more federally recognized Indian tribes (including tribal consortia operated as nonprofit organizations) acting as a fiscal agent for one or more prosecutor agencies.
- For the purposes of this notice of funding opportunity, “state” means any state of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
