OJP is committed to advancing work that promotes civil rights and equity, increases access to justice, supports crime victims and individuals impacted by the justice system, strengthens community safety and protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community. With this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals for rigorous applied research and evaluative studies on innovations, initiatives, and strategies in both institutional and community corrections. This program furthers DOJ’s mission to uphold the rule of law, to keep the country safe, and to protect civil rights.
Goals
To develop evidence to inform policy and practice to improve outcomes for corrections staff, the incarcerated and under supervision, and their communities.
Objectives
To promote and support rigorous research to:
- Interventions to enhance culture and climate;
- Programs to improve officer wellness;
- Technological innovations to promote safety and security; and
- Initiatives to improve outcomes for incarcerated individuals.
Priority Areas
NIJ will give special consideration in award decisions to proposals for which a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) is the lead applicant.
Minority-Serving Institutions include:
- Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)
- Hispanic-serving Institutions (HSI)
- Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU)
- Alaska Native-serving Institutions or Native Hawaiian-serving Institutions (ANNH)
- Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI)
- Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving Institutions (AANAPISI)
- Native American-serving Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTI).
Funding Information
- Anticipated Total Amount To Be Awarded Under This Solicitation: $3,000,000.
- Period of Performance Duration (Months): To be determined by the period of performance of awarded applications. Successful applicants will be expected to complete the work proposed within a five-year (60 Months) period of performance.
