The goal of SMIF’s Economic Development Grant is to support initiatives which enable communities to create more prosperous local economies. SMIF seeks applications that support economic development and entrepreneurship.
Funding Information
Requests of up to $20,000 will be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) organization, a unit/agency of government, or a public institution (i.e., public school district or public college or university), or secure an eligible fiscal agent.
- Proposals must demonstrate benefit to SMIF’s 20-county region and/or Native nation
- Only one Economic Development Grant application per organization will be considered
- All grants require a 100% match, at least 25% cash (cash match must be in-hand before grant funds are released)
- All projects must have at least one project partner/collaborator
- New or existing projects/programs will be prioritized. However, they will also consider strategic/pivot planning and short-term emergency general operating expenses.
Exclusions
Ineligible organizations or activities include:
- Individuals, businesses, or other for-profit organizations
- Capital funding, real estate investments, fixed assets, equipment, campaigns or endowments
- Existing deficits or projects/programs that have been completed.
- Programs or services mandated by law
- Funds for re-granting or to establish loan pools
- Organizations that have an outstanding SMIF grant obligation
- Research projects or school-related internships
- Routine city, county, or township maintenance, planning or zoning
- Feasibility studies that will not have tangible outcomes within the 12-month timeframe
