Details:
The primary purpose of BJAG funding is to reduce existing gaps in services that aim to decrease violent crime, assist crime victims, and improve enforcement, prosecution, adjudication, detention, and rehabilitation efforts. The Office has undertaken a comprehensive, three-tier plan focused on expanded collaboration among law enforcement, crime prevention, justice system-involved youth, and victim service communities to create a safer Maryland.

BJAG State Priority Areas
The SFY25 BJAG State Priority Areas are:
- Place-Based Interventions
- In accordance with the Governor’s state plan, this priority area focuses on place-based intervention strategies where criminal justice system partners, service providers, community groups, and the communities they serve establish strong partnerships to target crime “hot spots” or microzones.
- Real-Time Crime Data Access
- Support efforts to enhance public access to real-time crime data, enabling the community to stay informed and engaged in local safety measures. Initiatives should aim to develop and implement technology solutions that provide immediate, transparent access to crime data for residents, businesses, and community organizations.
- Youth Crime Prevention and Gun Violence Reduction
- Implement initiatives specifically aimed at reducing youth involvement in gun violence through preventative measures, education, and rehabilitation programs.
- Specialized Public Safety Training
- Priority will be given to Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) programs to support law enforcement, correctional officers, probation and parole, and sheriff’s departments in effectively partnering with mental health, substance use, and community service professionals.
- Support judicial training programs focused on prevention, early intervention, and behavioral interventions to increase child well-being and address adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
