Funding available for Nutrition & Healthy Lifestyles in Michigan

Dated: March 19, 2024

The Michigan Health Endowment Fund is excited to announce the 2024 Nutrition & Healthy Lifestyles Initiative.

Donor Name: Michigan Health Endowment Fund

State: Michigan

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 03/22/2024

Size of the Grant: $100,000 to $500,000

Grant Duration: 2 Years

Details:

Michigan boasts the nation’s second most agriculturally diverse economy, yet one in seven residents experience food insecurity. Trails and waterways beckon with endless opportunities to explore and be active, but fewer than a quarter of Michigan children get an hour of physical activity each day. Michigan’s bounty is plentiful, but they don’t all have access to it—and that disparity contributes to poor health outcomes, especially for racial and ethnic minorities, people with lower incomes, and other marginalized groups.

The 2024 Nutrition & Healthy Lifestyles Initiative is the product of an ongoing evolution to address critical nutrition and lifestyle challenges that negatively impact Michigan children and older adults. The Health Fund aims to solicit innovative proposals that align with the priorities of the organization and the needs of Michigan communities.

Strategies

  • Strengthen community capacity
    • Support food policy councils
    • Support state and school community coalitions to increase healthy food access and physical activity opportunities
  • Inform policy through analysis, collaboration and education
    • Support policy education
    • Develop and share reliable data
  • Spark innovation and build sustainability
    • Replicate interventions that effectively engage those most affected by lack of healthy food access and physical activity opportunities.

Funding Information

  • The Health Fund anticipates awarding grants between $50,000 to $500,000.
  • Applicants may apply for a one or two-year grant, but the total request is limited to $500,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Nonprofits, local units of government, and the State of Michigan are eligible for grants. To be eligible to apply for a grant under this initiative, applicants must:

  • Be recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a nonprofit organization;
  • Serve Michigan residents;
  • Have a current certified financial audit or independently reviewed financial statements; and
