The Minnesota Department of Education’s Strategic Plan prioritizes that each student learns in a safe and healthy school environment. As such, this grant program is designed to intentionally increase accessible use of restroom facilities and improve student health and safety through measurable outcomes. Therefore, 20% of funds in this program may go toward activities related to engagement and implementation.
Funding Information
This grant opportunity estimates that $925,000 in Fiscal Year 2026 is available.The maximum award for this grant is $150,000 which can be spent over two years. Applicants may apply to remodel, construct, or repurpose space for gender-neutral single-user restrooms across multiple sites, however no more than $75,000 may be spent per site.

- Labor costs
- Materials
- Equipment
- Plumbing and electrical work
- Wall and flooring
- Fixture installation
- Accessibility features
- Painting and signage
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible grantees include school districts, charter schools, Tribally controlled schools, intermediate school districts, and cooperative units as defined in Minnesota Statutes, section 123A.24, subdivision 2, who have not previously received a Gender-Neutral Single-User Restroom grant.
