In considering contributions, the Delta Dental Foundation (DDF) evaluates each application on its own merits, and careful consideration is given to each request. Primary considerations include: programs in which the requesting organization is engaged; the constituencies served; accountability and fundraising practices; level of community engagement; availability of alternative sources of funding; viability of the program; and potential impact on oral health and/or dental science. Grants may also be made to specific projects and programs in schools, prekindergarten through grade 12, as well as universities and colleges.
Strategic Aims
- DDF will improve access for people and communities that experience historic or systemic barriers to dental care by:
- Expanding the number and type of access points.
- Funding the development of and equipping safety-net dental clinics.
- Exploring new or innovative policies that improve the payer system.
- DDF will advocate for policies that improve access to care, education and the oral health safety net by:
- DDF will improve oral hygiene habits and increase dental visits for people and communities that experience historic or systemic barriers to dental care by:
- Advancing campaigns and programs that promote daily oral hygiene habits and regular visits to an oral health professional.
- Promoting the connection between oral and overall health.
- DDF will respond, as needed, to emerging oral health issues by:
- Bridging emergent gaps in access to care.
- Incubating new research, programs and technologies that support oral health equity.
- Convening community partners to address emerging issues as they arise.
- DDF will strengthen and diversify the oral health safety net by:
- Developing and supporting programs that recruit providers from diverse backgrounds.
- Establishing and supporting new models of care, such as dental therapy.
- Developing and supporting programs that train providers in an equity-based approach to care.
Funding Information
General grants are intended for funding requests over $10,000.
Eligibility Criteria
Nonprofits, government agencies, schools, colleges and universities that serve Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and North Carolina are eligible to apply.
Limitations
The DDF does not normally provide grants for the following:
- Building construction.
- Normal overhead expenses.
- Indirect costs.
- Individuals (with the exception of recipients of the DDF’s scholarships, research grants and community service awards).
- Organizations that discriminate by race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, disability, veteran status or national origin.
- Political activities, organizations or campaigns.
- Loans.
- Projects developed for commercial or proprietary purposes.
