The goal is to support a vast network of well-connected organizations that aid all entrepreneurs in accessing the education, capital, and business support services needed to grow their ventures.
The Coleman Foundation seeks to support and learn from organizations inside the ecosystem that are:
- supporting entrepreneurs’ tech-based, high-growth businesses to grow and operate their ventures in the greater Chicago region,
- piloting innovative programs that address access to capital for entrepreneurs in the greater Chicago region, and/or
- organizing advocacy, coalition, or educational opportunities that will lead to fewer barriers (red tape, administrative burdens et al.) for entrepreneurs who want to start, grow, or scale their business venture in the greater Chicago region.
Funding Information
Amounts to range from $25,000 – $150,000.
Grant period
12 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to apply for funding. For-profit companies, religious institutions, and individuals are not eligible.
- Organizations or partners in proposed work must not have an active grant with The Coleman Foundation.
- Proposed work must be geographically restricted to the greater Chicago region.
- K-12 programs and proposed work to support youth entrepreneurship are ineligible.
- Organization’s current annual revenues must be at least $250,000.
- Organizations with annual revenues greater than $500,000 must submit their most recently audited financial statements with certification (must be within the last two years).
Grantmaking Criteria
Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Potential to strengthen the greater Chicago region’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
- The proposed work is in partnership with at least one other nonprofit organization.
- Demonstrated need in the ecosystem.
- Organizational capacity and fiscal health.
