This initiative is designed to provide capital and capacity-building resources to support environmental sustainability in Native agricultural and food systems. Through this collaboration, SEF and NAAF aim to accelerate efforts that empower Tribal agricultural producers to implement sustainable practices on their farms and ranches.
The initiative encourages projects that integrate traditional ecological knowledge while addressing key elements of sustainable agriculture, including:
- Soil Health: Implementing practices that improve soil fertility, structure, and vitality.
- Water Use: Adopting methods that enhance water efficiency and protect water quality.
- Climate Resilience: Establishing strategies that reduce carbon emissions and promote carbon sequestration.
Funding Information
Grants are for $40,000 for a period of 12 months beginning October 1, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
Green Horizons is an opportunity targeted for state and federally recognized Tribal governments. To determine eligibility, we reference the Federal Register’s list of federally recognized Tribes and each state’s list of state recognized Tribes. The lead applicant must be a Tribal government. To be considered the lead applicant, an entity must serve as the project lead/key personnel for the project, have oversight of the budget, and be the primary contact with SEF throughout the duration of the grant. Tribal governments may choose to partner with other entities including but not limited to 501(c)(3) organizations, educational organizations, and community/grassroots coalitions.
