The Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial (HTWM) is a charitable foundation, formed as a nonprofit corporation under Pennsylvania law to carry out the wishes of Henrietta Tower Wurts, as set forth in her will upon her death in 1933. Reflecting her deep commitment to community services, HTWM Fund focuses on programs that directly serve or improve the welfare of disadvantaged children, youth, and the elderly living in the City of Philadelphia.
Priorities
- Organizations with budgets under $1.5 million and
- Organizations offering holistic programming, defined as the integrated approach to service delivery that addresses multiple interconnected needs of participants through direct services, referral, partnerships and resources to meet the needs of the whole person. The organization must demonstrate that they look beyond immediate crises to address the underlying factors and create pathways to long term stability, opportunity and success.
Funding Information
Grants are made on a one-year basis and range from $1,000 to $5,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status or be fiscally sponsored
- Operating budget under $1.5 million Priority will be given to organizations with budgets under $1.5 million Organizations previously funded by HTWM with budgets greater than $1.5 million are eligible to apply but their current budgets should not exceed $2.5 million
- Organizations with deficits exceeding 10% of their operating budget for two consecutive will not be considered
- Organizations must serve Philadelphia County (Organizations operating exclusively outside Philadelphia County are not eligible to apply)
- Organization must be able to provide one year of financial data Organization must have at least a 2-year track record of work
- Holistic programming
- Organizations with a valid Bureau of Charitable Organization Certification.
Ineligibility
- Organizations outside of the City of Philadelphia
- Organizations that have received three (3) consecutive years of funding
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, ethnic origin, sexual or religious preference, age, disability or gender
- Organizations with budgets over $1.5 million. Organizations previously funded by HTWM with budgets greater than $1.5 million are eligible to apply but their current budgets should not exceed $2.5 million
- Schools (including private, charter schools). Schools are eligible to apply if they meet all eligibility criteria and the programs are available to the public.
- Organizations that engage exclusively in mutual aid, cash assistance, regranting, provision of sporting equipment or relief programs (short-term emergency or crisis response)
- Requests for galas, event sponsorships and tickets for programming
- Organizations serving fewer than 30 youth or elderly individuals.
- Professional or social networking organizations
- Proposals requesting assistance for religious or political purpos
