This program is intended to reduce violent and other crime, spur neighborhood investment and development from within and out, reduce code violations, and more, through Association and resident-led projects and programs with respect to resident health and safety, enhancing dignity, aging in place, and other necessary quality of life repairs. Neighborhoods have the opportunity to assist residents in experiencing value through “community”, and how this and partnerships support strength and stability.
The Neighborhood Empowerment Grant awards projects that prioritize the following areas:
- Community Engagement: Promoting active participation and involvement of residents in neighborhood initiatives and activities.
- Enhancing Neighborhood Identity: Supporting projects celebrating each neighborhood’s unique identity and culture.
- Public Safety Strategies: Funding projects and programs to enhance community safety.
- Quality of Life Enhancements: Facilitating necessary repairs and upgrades to improve residents’ safety and well-being.
- Crime Reduction: Supporting community-led projects aimed at reducing violence and other crimes.
- Neighborhood Investment: Encouraging neighborhood investment and development both internally and externally.
- Code Violation Remediation: Implementing measures to reduce code violations and enhance the overall living conditions of residents.

Eligibility Criteria
Application is open to not-for-profit Neighborhood Associations that are registered (or will partner with an Association who is registered) with the City of Kansas City and with the State of Missouri.
