Generally, grants are awarded to proposals for projects located in Manhattan and Riley County, Kansas.
Project topics may be international, national, regional or local in focus but should be locally relevant drawing connections to broad themes or historical questions. Program formats include, but are not limited to, interpretive exhibitions, community conversations, town halls, panel discussions, presentations, book discussions, short films or full-length films. Creativity and innovation are encouraged. The project should not involve advocacy for a particular viewpoint and should be free of bias. A balance of viewpoints should be present.
Eligibility Criteria
- This application is for Humanities Grants – projects that are intended to bring humanities to life for general audiences through public programming. Humanities is a broad subject that includes learning about, thinking about, describing, and discussing what it means to be human, connecting humans as well as generating insights that cultivate a thriving community.
- Proposals should require awards exceeding $10,000. A detailed budget is required to calculate all anticipated project/program expenses.
- Proposals generally should NOT be made for projects requiring ongoing support from GMCF.
- Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) to apply or apply in partnership with a 501(c)(3) organization.
