The funds can be used to support a wide range of initiatives aimed at fostering community and strengthening connections among residents. The City’s objective is to support events that bring people together, public art projects that celebrate Malden’s unique character, physical improvements that enhance shared spaces, and activities that respond to community needs not being met through other funding sources.
Funding Information
The City anticipates awarding up to $200,000 per year for the next several years.
Grant Period
All funds awarded must be spent by the end of the upcoming fiscal year: June 30, 2026.
Eligible Expenses
Eligible expenses include: small-scale physical improvements between $5,000 and $25,000 (for example: painting, mural installation, programmatic equipment); program and event costs between $5,000 and $15,000 (for example: multicultural festivals, block parties, neighborhood meet-ups, new program implementation costs).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be local non-profits, community organizations, and/or grassroots groups. Applicants cannot be for-profit businesses, nor can they be City of Malden employees or elected officials. While Grants are available to any qualified organization, awards will be prioritized to assist:
- Malden-based organizations
- applicants who are ineligible under other programs such as CDBG and other local or state grant programs and/or who have not received funds from CDBG or similar programs in the prior two years.
