The Michigan Supplier Conversion Grant Program is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Opportunity, the Michigan Economic Development Corp., the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center, the Michigan Small Business Development Center, the Centrepolis Accelerator at Lawrence Technological University, and the University of Michigan Economic Growth Institute.
Funding Information
The Michigan Supplier Conversion Grant program has allocated $31.8 million to help Michigan’s small and medium-size suppliers convert from manufacturing parts or components for internal combustion engine vehicles to manufacturing parts or components for the electric vehicle supply chain.
Eligible Costs
Eligible costs could include the following areas:
- Equipment necessary to produce batteries and electric vehicle parts, components, or materials (e.g., tools, dies, fixtures, gauges, other special machines or precision machined parts)
- Other technology critical for the domestic productions of electric vehicle parts, components, or materials
- Workforce retraining necessary for the production of the listed electric vehicle parts, components, or materials.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Domestic entities located in Michigan
- Small or medium-sized company with fewer than 1,500 employees, or operating a facility with 500 or fewer employees
- Currently manufacturing products, components, or materials for internal combustion engine vehicles
- Eligible projects must meet all of the following criteria:
- Retooling to manufacture products, components, or materials for electric vehicles
- Retooling that is necessary for company to remain operational
- Projects initiated prior to grant approval are not eligible for funding.
- Ineligible projects:
- Facility upgrades not related to manufacturing products, components, or materials for electric vehicles.
