The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Division of Research is now accepting applications for the Humanities Research Centers on Artificial Intelligence program. This initiative aims to support the creation of new collaborative research centers focused on understanding artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on society, particularly in the United States. The program encourages sustained collaboration among scholars exploring the humanities aspects of AI through multiple related scholarly activities.
The total funding available for the program is $2.5 million, with individual grants ranging from $500,000 to $1 million. Projects must start between May 1, 2026, and April 1, 2027, and the grant period lasts for three years.
Eligible applicants include city or township governments, private institutions of higher education, special district governments, nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status, county governments, Native American tribal governments, state governments, and public institutions of higher education. The application deadline is October 1, 2025.
