Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for funding, organizations must demonstrate that they offer publicly accessible arts and cultural programming in New York State and in their fiscal year ending in 2024 had New York State-based arts and cultural expenses of at least $20,000, as reported on their statement of activities. Applicants must also demonstrate certain entity characteristics. To be eligible to apply directly, an organization must be one of the following types of entities:
- 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, either incorporated in or authorized to do business in New York State;
- state or federally recognized Native American nation; or
- unit of local or federal government.
- To be eligible to apply as a fiscally sponsored entity, where the sponsoree prepares its own application and the application is submitted by a fiscal sponsor organization, the sponsoree must be one (or more) of the following types of entities:
- a nonprofit corporation either incorporated in or authorized to do business in New York State that is not itself recognized as a 501(c)(3) at the time of application (a pending application for recognition by the IRS is okay if it is reported in the funding application);
- an unincorporated entity operating in New York State that is neither a limited liability company (LLC) or a limited liability partnership (LLP), which are both ineligible; or
- a distinct program operating in New York State under a parent organization, such as a public arts entity within a university or other nonprofit organization.
