The goal of the Community Grants Program is to support projects that raise awareness and understanding of Pollution Prevention practices and lead to implemenation at the local level.
Funding Information
Typical grant awards will range from $10,000 – $30,000 per project. The maximum grant award will be $30,000 per project.
Grant Period
Be completed within the project timeline, which is anticipated to be October 1, 2026,through September 30,2027.
Preference will be given to projects that
- Utilize partnerships and collaborations with other Organizations
- Demonstrate a broad community impact
- Address populations and communities affected by, experiencing, or susceptible to environmental harms and risk
- Are replicable and transferrable to other organizations
- Build on, adapt, or expand existing tools, resources, curricula, case studies, or implementation models developed through prior NYSP2I-funded projects or other publicly funded pollution prevention initiatives, rather than duplicating existing efforts.
- Demonstrate awareness of existing pollution prevention resources and clearly explain how the proposed project fills a gap, enhances effectiveness, or extends reach to new audiences or communities.
Eligible projects
Projects should:
- Align with the Pollution Prevention definition of this program
- Include an implementation component at the community or municipal level that advances the
adoption of pollution prevention practices in New York State. - Demonstrate a clear and actionable project plan.
Include specific deliverables that advance implementation at the community level (e.g., pilot programs, community engagement activities, service delivery or infrastructure improvements such as
non – capital improvements, signage , and bins. - Demonstrate a clear timeline and pathway to impact during the grant period.
- Produce one or more tangible output (s) — such as a training or public education workshop,
demonstration, implementation of a new technology or practice, or development of materials like brochures, videos, or a website. These outputs should be achievable during the grant
period
Eligibility Criteria
organizations eligible for funding under the Community Grants Program include community organizations, tribal nations and indigenous governance bodies, and local government agencies.
